Being A Light For People At Work

by | Aug 29, 2018

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, he gives us his Holy Spirit to council, guide and teach us so that we can be molded into the image of Christ bit by bit. How do we let our light shine? It starts with the way we do our work and how we treat people. It happens when we are loving to those we work with, no matter how stressful the workload is. It happens when we give our very best and do our work with excellence. It happens when we stick uncompromisingly to our values regardless of how much resistance or temptation we might face.

This week, challenge yourself to let your light shine more brightly at work.

  • Is there someone with whom you have experienced unresolved tension? Offer them words of encouragement and support.
  • Is there someone whom you’ve seen struggling? Find a way to serve that person.
  • Do you have a tight deadline to meet? Clear all distractions, ask God for strength, and work at it with all your heart to produce the best possible work.
  • Is there negative talk going on around you? Shift the conversation to give gratitude, share hope and speak supportive words over the situation.
