Hope in a Season of Uncertainty

by | Dec 6, 2017

We all face times of uncertainty at work, and they can be especially daunting this time of the year. Maybe there’s a threat of layoffs; perhaps it doesn’t look like you’re going to hit your end-of-year financial goals; or maybe you just found out that a big account isn’t going to come through. Whatever uncertainty you may be facing, it can feel like the ground is about to fall out from under you at any moment.

Uncertainty can drive us crazy and compel us to charge out on our own to create a solution. It’s easy to become desperate and try to manipulate the situation to achieve a sense of  security and control.

The problem with living that way is that we miss the opportunity to release our grip and simply trust our Father. Instead of reacting, we can view  uncertainty as a gift God can use to increase our faith and strengthen our trust in Him. We become better people when we embrace the tension of uncertainty and lean heavily into the faithfulness of God.

If you’re walking through a time of uncertainty, rely on God’s Word. Here are some excellent verses you can memorize and pray out loud. Keep them close to your heart as you simply take the next step forward.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm youl, plans to give you hope and a future.’”  – Jeremiah 29:11

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  – Proverbs 3:5-6

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” – Psalm 55:22

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” – John 14:26

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”  – Psalm 32:8

And most importantly …

When life seems unstable and you can’t find the clarity you’re longing for, simply praise God. Thank him for all that He is doing and all that you trust He will do.

“Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!”  – Philippians 4:4
