Have you ever been in a situation where you felt used because of your professional credentials? Maybe you’ve felt dismissed because of your limited resume. Too often, the ladder to success carries with it a temptation to discard those who lack the professional title to get us somewhere. And if we don’t keep it in check, this temptation can get the best of us.
In Kingdom culture, we are stripped of title and rank. They are meaningless. Sure, we can effect change in our organizations by wielding the influence that may come with job title, but this MUST be divorced from the value we see in ourselves and others. When value, identity and worth are rooted in our identify as followers of Christ, it creates harmony and invites others to follow Jesus with us. But when they are found in a job or title, our lives are incongruent with the faith we profess. Proud and conceited isn’t a good look on anybody!
“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.” –Romans 12:16
