We all face times of uncertainty, especially in our work. Maybe there’s a threat of job loss, perhaps it doesn’t look like you’re going to hit your financial goals, or a big account isn’t going to come through. Whatever the uncertainty is, it can feel like the ground is about to fall out from under you at any moment.
Ambiguity can drive us crazy and result in charging out on our own to create the path we think is best. We become desperate to feel safe and in control of our circumstances so we manipulate them until they seemingly turn out in our favor.
The problem with living that way is that we miss the opportunity to release our grip and simply trust our Father. I believe that uncertainty is a gift that God intentionally gives us so that our faith and trust in him has a chance to grow. We become better people when we embrace the tension of uncertainty and lean heavily into the faithfulness of God.
If you’re walking through a time of uncertainty rely on these scriptures. Memorize them. Keep them close to your heart as you simply take the next step forward.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:6-7
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be moved.” Psalm 55:22
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8
And most importantly…
When life seems unstable and you can’t find the clarity you’re longing for, simply praise God. Thank him for all that he is doing and all that you trust he will do.
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4
