“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” – 1 Peter 3:15-16
There is nothing more important than honoring God in our work so we can create opportunities to share our faith with others. If we give into fear about sharing our faith we are basically cooperating with the enemy, who wants nothing more than for us to remain silent. We can’t afford to wait. If it weren’t for people in my life who not only lived out their faith at work, but were also bold enough to share it, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I had two women in particular share their faith with me at work when I was still living in New York. In one company, our office manager, Gwen, frequently thanked God for her job. She especially did so on the tough days because those were the days she needed to remind herself how blessed she was. In another company I worked for, Joy gave glory to God for her sales each week in our sales meetings. She also prayed with her customers, many of whom were not believers. I noticed that not everyone agreed with her, but they couldn’t help but respect her. After all, she was one of the top sales people. Both of these women did excellent work and always showed others they cared.
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-discipline – so that we can share the reason for our faith and invite others to share in the life Jesus died to give us.
This week, challenge yourself to live out your faith boldly at work.
